Binay Shah: Three Timely Levers to help bridge growing gap in Cancer Care

“Despite unprecedented advances in cancer treatment — with over 50 new cancer drugs approved annually in recent years — disparities in access to care are widening.

In our latest article in KFF Health News, Dr. Manish Kohli of Huntsman Cancer Institute and I outline three urgent policy levers to help bridge this growing gap:

  • protect and expand the Affordable Care Act,
  • make telehealth and telerehab coverage permanent,
  • proactively address the equity threats posed by rapid drug innovation.

Rural, low-income, and minority patients continue to face systemic barriers to timely, high-quality care. It’s time for our leaders in Washington, D.C., to act decisively to ensure these breakthroughs benefit all patients, not just a privileged few.
