The Second Global OncoThon: A Day of Unity and Action for Pediatric Cancer

OncoDaily, in partnership with the International Society of Pediatric Oncology (SIOP), is excited to announce the Second Global OncoThon, a 24-hour virtual event aimed at raising essential funds and awareness for pediatric cancer research. Set for February 15, 2025, to coincide with Childhood Cancer Awareness Day, this global initiative will unite people and organizations worldwide with a common goal: ensuring a future free of cancer for every child.

Despite being one of the leading causes of disease-related death in children, childhood cancer receives significantly less research funding than adult cancers. With nearly half a million new diagnoses every year, pediatric cancer is often classified as a “rare disease,” limiting the resources allocated to it. While over 200 drugs are available for adult cancers, fewer than 30 have been developed specifically for children, illustrating the critical gap in treatment options. This funding shortage hampers innovation, delaying the development of life-saving treatments and leaving children worldwide without the advancements they desperately need.

The Second Global OncoThon focuses not on statistics but on real, human stories—the child with hopes of a future, the parent committed to never giving up, and the global community that can make a tangible difference. This event will be a day of connection, compassion, and action, uniting us to declare that no child should ever face cancer alone. It is our moment to inspire change and deliver the breakthroughs every child deserves.

Save the date and join us for this pivotal day of solidarity and progress.

One Day. One Mission. One Global Effort.

Where the Funds Are Going?

The funds raised through the Global OncoThon will be allocated to critical initiatives aimed at advancing pediatric oncology research and care. Specifically, these funds will support the following:

  • Fellowships: The funds will provide fellowships for young oncologists and researchers, particularly from low- and middle-income countries, enabling them to gain essential experience, pursue advanced training, and contribute to global cancer research.
  • PARC Grants: These funds will support PARC (Pediatric Oncology Research Collaboration) grants, which provide funding for international research projects focused on advancing pediatric cancer treatment. These grants will support collaborative efforts across countries to develop new therapies, diagnostic tools, and treatment protocols.
  • Young Investigator Awards: The funds will be used to establish Young Investigator Awards, which will recognize and support promising early-career researchers in the field of pediatric oncology. These awards will help cultivate new talent, foster innovation, and drive the next generation of breakthroughs in pediatric cancer research.
  • Career Development Awards: These awards will fund professionals’ career advancement, enabling them to develop specialized expertise and contribute to global pediatric cancer efforts. They will support training programs, research projects, and international collaborations to improve care and outcomes for children with cancer worldwide.
