MASCC 2025 Presidential Training Fellowship Spotlight: Dr. Colleen Ann Cuthbert
MASCC 2025 Presidential Training Fellowship recognizes one of seven outstanding oncology leaders highlighted by OncoDaily for their commitment to advancing supportive cancer care worldwide.
The Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer (MASCC) Presidential Training Fellowship is one of the most prestigious honors for emerging leaders in oncology, recognizing early-career physicians and researchers who are redefining cancer care through innovation, education, and international collaboration.
As part of OncoDaily’s exclusive MASCC 2025 coverage, today we feature Dr. Colleen Ann Cuthbert, a nurse practitioner, clinician-scientist, and educator from Canada whose work bridges direct patient care, health services research, and long-term survivorship in cancer.
About Dr. Colleen Ann Cuthbert
Dr. Cuthbert holds a rare dual expertise in advanced practice nursing and population health research. She serves as an Associate Professor at the University of Calgary and practices clinically as a nurse practitioner in oncology survivorship care. With a PhD in Nursing and postdoctoral training focused on patient-centered outcomes, she has built her career around understanding and addressing the long-term effects of cancer and its treatments.
Her research program investigates the late and long-term consequences of cancer, including fatigue, symptom management, psychosocial health, and quality-of-life issues faced by survivors. She is also deeply invested in developing survivorship models of care that integrate patient voices, ensuring that healthcare delivery is responsive to lived experience.
Through her innovative work, Dr. Cuthbert has become a national leader in Canada’s survivorship research landscape, advocating for stronger integration of supportive oncology into standard cancer care.
A Voice for Cancer Survivors
Dr. Cuthbert’s recognition as a MASCC Presidential Training Fellow underscores her vision for a future where supportive care and survivorship are not seen as add-ons, but as fundamental elements of cancer care.
As part of her fellowship, she will contribute to MASCC’s global mission by collaborating on survivorship-focused initiatives and quality improvement projects, including international efforts to align care delivery with MASCC’s 2030 Supportive Care Statements.
Her dual perspective as both a frontline nurse practitioner and a researcher gives her a unique ability to translate findings from the academic sphere into meaningful improvements in patient care.
Shaping the Future of Supportive Oncology
Dr. Colleen Cuthbert represents the next generation of oncology leaders, professionals who combine clinical excellence, research innovation, and patient advocacy. Her work in survivorship, quality of life, and patient engagement reflects MASCC’s mission to improve cancer care for every patient, everywhere.
