Finding Clarity in Oncology: Jennifer Douglas on Managing Emotional Overload
Jennifer Douglas, Writer and DCIS Breast Cancer Patient Advocate, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“In seasons of emotional intensity, I’m learning just how important it is to create space for my own clarity. This week, after navigating some complex conversations at home, I took a long walk with my husband. I alternated between venting, strategizing, and just… thinking. Later, I took a bath. That combination—movement, reflection, and stillness—helped me shift from mental overload to clearer perspective.
As an introvert, I’ve learned that I can’t always find clarity in the conversation. I often find it after—when I give my mind room to breathe.
In my work with patients navigating breast cancer, I see this often: we’re asked to make big decisions, manage high emotions, and absorb complex information—all at once. Taking time to process isn’t optional; it’s essential. Whether it’s a bath, a journal, a walk, or prayer—whatever helps you reconnect with yourself, make time for it.What helps you find clarity when your thoughts feel especially loud?”
