Hadi Mohamad Abu Rasheed, Scientific Advisor at the Qatar Cancer Society and Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Doha for Science and Technology, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“A Shared Mission for Hematology Care in the GCC Hematology Hub 2025.

It was a privilege to represent the Qatar Cancer Society, Scientific Partner of the 3rd GCC Hematology Hub Conference 2025, hosted in Doha – a gathering of brilliant minds united by one goal: improving outcomes for people living with hematological malignancies across the region.

In my welcome remarks, I asked attendees to imagine a world where every person with blood cancer – regardless of nationality, age, or circumstance – has access to compassionate, evidence-based care. That vision is what brought us together, and it continues to drive our mission forward.

The GCC Hematology Hub was not just another meeting. It was a catalyst for collaboration – between disciplines, between countries, and most importantly, between science and humanity.

I want to take this opportunity to reflect on the Holistic Approach to Caring for People Living with Haematological Malignancies.

Key pillars of this approach include:

Addressing the physical, psychological, social, and spiritual dimensions of care throughout the cancer journey
Integrating palliative care early, not as an end-stage intervention, but as a means to preserve dignity and enhance quality of life
Providing financial navigation services to ease the economic burden of treatment
Strengthening community-based support systems to reduce isolation and promote resilience

And most importantly, embedding the meaningful engagement of people living with hematological malignancies into our healthcare systems:

Actively involving patients and survivors in the design, delivery, and evaluation of care
Listening deeply to patient stories to foster empathy and humanize clinical practice
Establishing continuous feedback loops where patients are not just participants, but co-creators of innovation
Ensuring that diverse patient voices are represented in research, policy, and program development

Because when people living with cancer are seen as partners – not just recipients – of care, we build systems that are more compassionate, more effective, and more sustainable.
