The EP Intergroup on Cancer and Rare Diseases held its first constitutive meeting – SIOP Europe
SIOP Europe posted on LinkedIn:
“Big news from Brussels!
The European Parliament Intergroup on Cancer and Rare Diseases has gathered today for its first constitutive meeting to endorse its Terms of Reference and work plan for the 2024-2029 legislature!
As part of the Intergroup Secretariat, SIOPE will be working closely with this forum over the coming years.
With the leadership of MEPs Vlad Voiculescu (Renew, RO), Alessandra Moretti (S&D, IT), and Tomislav Sokol (European People’s Party, HR), Stine Bosse (Renew, DK), and Tilly Metz (The Greens/EFA in the European Parliament, LU) and in collaboration with SIOP Europe, European Cancer Organisation, and EURORDIS-Rare Diseases Europe, this Intergroup will create a platform for engagement with leading experts, track policy developments across the EU, and advocate for effective public policies and EU legislation. The goal is to drive real change for people affected by cancer, childhood cancer, and rare diseases.
SIOPE is committed to cure more, cure better, and tackle inequalities in childhood cancer across Europe as:
- 35,000 children and adolescents are diagnosed with cancer in Europe every year.
- 6,000 young lives are lost annually.
- Survival rates differ by up to 20% across Europe due to unequal access to care and research.
This forum will work to ensure that every adult or child in Europe living with cancer or a rare disease has access to the best possible care.
Stay tuned – all related news will be shared on SIOPE, ECO, and EURORDIS’ social media accounts.”
