Udhayvir Grewal: Palliative Care and End-of-Life Care in Esophageal Cancer
Udhayvir Grewal, Resident Physician at Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport, shared a post on X about a paper he co-authored with Suriya Baskar published in JCO Oncology Practice:
“Proud of Suriya Baskar for leading this important work on end-of-life care in esophageal cancer, just out in JCO Oncology Practice.
Palliative care (PC) in advanced esophageal cancer was associated with shorter hospital stays, lower costs, higher rates of DNR status, and reduced use of invasive interventions at the end of life.
However, Black patients were less likely than White patients to receive PC or have DNR status, highlighting disparities in EoL care.”
Phuong Gallagher, Stage IV Rectal Cancer Survivor, Past Colon Club President, and Colorectal Cancer Advocate, shared this post, adding:
“This may have been done with Esophageal cancer, but the focus should really be on the effect of the integration of palliative care in the treatment plan. Amazing work.”
