International Kidney Cancer Coalition (IKCC) shared a post on LinkedIn:

“We are stronger together, and it is the sum of our strengths that makes a global impact.

At IKCC, this belief is foundational to all that we do. It is in this spirit that we are pleased to announce a new partnership with The Max Foundation following the recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding.

The Max Foundation has been a friend of IKCC for many years. It is a nonprofit organisation dedicated to accelerating health equity by delivering medication, technology, and services to patients facing cancer and critical illness in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Like IKCC, they value partnerships with aligned organisations and understand that overcoming barriers to cancer care requires a multi-stakeholder approach.

The primary purpose of the MoU is for IKCC and the Max Foundation to collaborate in achieving the goal of improving patient outcomes in LMICs. It is well documented that accessing early detection, diagnostics, treatment and support – all drivers of positive patient outcomes – is a significant unmet need for people living with kidney cancer in low-resource settings.

Each organisation will bring forward its areas of expertise. IKCC will work to enhance access to advocacy, education, and healthcare professional knowledge. The Max Foundation has operational experience in bringing treatment and supportive care to cancer patients in need.

As part of this partnership, IKCC has joined the Humanitarian Partnership for Access to Critical Treatment (Humanitarian PACT). It was created by the Max Foundation to provide a framework to strategically engage committed, action-oriented partners to improve health equity and accelerate access globally.

Effective partnerships have been a cornerstone of IKCC since the beginning. The Coalition was initiated through an understanding of like-minded national patient organisations that wanted to collaborate. Alliances with medical bodies – such as the European Association of Urology (EAU) and the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO) – have allowed IKCC to represent patients’ voices and values when decisions about treatment and care are being made. Working together with the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) and the Global Cancer Coalitions Network (GCCN) unite patient voices globally in a pan-cancer way. Most recently, IKCC has joined research collaborations to bring patient perspectives to research, including the DISCERN Project, the COMFORT Project, and CARE, A Pragmatic Clinical Trial.

The formalising of the partnership between the Max Foundation and IKCC is an important step towards attaining substantial impacts in LMICs. This has been an organisational priority for several years, but effective work in these regions has been challenging. We are confident that by bringing together our two organisations, through collaboration and alignment of our efforts, we have the potential to make a more meaningful impact on patient outcomes for people who are living with kidney cancer worldwide.”
