Ashton’s Story Shows Why Pediatric Cancer Research Matters – St. Baldrick’s Foundation
shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Meet Ashton, who serves as a reminder as to why pediatric cancer research matters.
In 2022, at just 6 years old, Ashton was diagnosed with T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia – a form of blood cancer.
To access the lifesaving treatment he needed, Ashton and his mom had to relocate nearly two hours from home. Over the next two years, he underwent high-dose chemotherapy—treatments originally designed for adults—that came with side effects: loss of mobility due to neuropathy, frequent hospital stays, and hair loss.
Today, Ashton is in recovery. He’s back at school with his friends, playing with his sisters, and slowly regaining strength. But the impact of cancer treatment lingers. He still faces abdominal pain and receives ongoing monitoring and blood tests to ensure his health remains stable.
Ashton’s resilience is nothing but remarkable. But no child should have to endure treatments this harsh.
That’s why funding research for kinder, more effective treatments is so important.
Join us in fueling more lifesaving childhood cancer research.”
