Vandana Mahajan: The “Women, Power and Cancer” Course by UICC Has Been Empowering in Many Ways
Vandana Mahajan, Palliative Care Counselor, Cancer Counselor, Patient Advocate and Cancer Survivor, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Learning never stops!
‘Women, power and cancer: implementing the Lancet Commission’s recommendations’ course, conducted by UICC – Union for International Cancer Control, has been empowering in so many ways.
Women being abandoned after bring diagnosed with cancer, women not having access to financially support for continuing treatment, girl child being denied treatment or being abandoned, women putting others first over their health needs, unpaid caregiving by women, unequal oppertunities at work in cancer settings – discrimination happening around us everyday but not being spoken about!
The topic of women and cancer encompasses more than just women’s cancers and biomedical aspects. It includes the ways in which sex and gender influence exposure to cancer risk factors, interactions with the healthcare system, health policies, and the structure of the healthcare and cancer workforce.
This course is based on the findings and recommendations included in the report published by The Lancet Commission on women, power, and cancer in September 2023.
A fantastic learning experience that I look forward to implementing!”
