Realising the potential of precision oncology requires an entire ecosystem: evidence, policy, diagnostics, medicines, data infrastructure, a genomics-capable workforce, and health systems able to translate genomic information into meaningful patient benefit.

The collection of work published alongside the Commission helps bring these challenges into sharper focus. Beyond the Commission report itself, this body of work comprises six regional reviews, six technical papers, and a series of Precision Oncology Snapshots.

Together, these publications offer one the most extensive assessments to date of the opportunities, barriers, and solutions shaping the adoption of cancer genomics and precision oncology across diverse health systems worldwide:

Meaningful patient engagement throughout research, implementation and care.

I hope our frameworks and practical recommendations will be useful to Member States and implementing partners as they translate precision oncology into practice and I look forward to the actions that follow.

On a personal note, I’d like to share a message with younger colleagues: believe in your ideas. This one began during my PhD and, years later, grew into a Lancet Oncology Commission. If you believe your idea matters, follow it. You will find many obstacles along the way, but also people who see its potential, support you, and open doors you may not have imagined.

I will always be grateful to David Collingridge, EiC of The Lancet Oncology, for believing in this one and giving it the chance to become something far bigger than I could imagined.

A huge thanks to everyone who contributed across disciplines, institutions, countries and regions!”
