Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Day One of the Cancer Planners Forum in Geneva is off to a strong start, bringing together 120 participants from 54 countries, including 45 cancer planners from 42 countries.
This morning’s insightful presentations and discussions were grounded in real country experience, with perspectives from Eswatini, The Gambia, Australia, Zimbabwe, Egypt, Uganda, and others on how to make National Cancer Control Plans (NCCPs) truly effective.
Key messages included:
- Prioritisation determines success and saves lives.
- Linking global recommendations — from WHO Best Buys and the World Cancer Declaration to WHO strategies and the SDGs — with national cancer priorities is essential.
- At the same time, strong objectives do not eliminate complexity.
- Implementation is rarely a straight path.
Hayley Jones, Director of the McCabe Centre for Law and Cancer, highlighted the importance of legal integration:
“Laws can shape whether cancer control plans can actually deliver and move from ambition to implementation”.
The morning concluded with engaging table discussions to exchange best practices and national insights.”
