“As a cancer survivor and advocate, it is marvelous to see this formal collaboration between two first-class cancer centers, The Christie in Manchester UK, and Peter Mac in Melbourne Australia.

I note with interest this part of the partnership: ‘As a first step plans are already underway to establish and recruit a dedicated radiation oncology fellowship across The Christie and Peter Mac. Candidates will spend one year in Manchester and one year in Melbourne as part of this prestigious training offering.’

As a Head and Neck Cancer survivor, treated successfully with radiation therapy, I am keen to see the full benefits of improvements in the targeting of the beam and the reduction in damage to healthy tissue extended to all cancer patients. I am particularly keen to see Proton Therapy come to Australian patients. The Christie is a leader in this field. Proton Therapy, for eligible patients, reduces the damage to healthy tissue.
