Youth Cancer Europe shared on LinkedIn:
“Youth Cancer Europe’s Katie Rizvi was part of the panel on ‘Quality of Life, Survivorship and Palliative Care: Holistic Quality Care Models and Patient Engagement‘ moderated by Christos Tsagkaris where Youth Cancer Network (YARN), JANE-2- EU Joint Action on Networks of Expertise on Cancer (Morena Shkodra) and PANCARE4AYA (Lieke F.) were presented.
The discussion reflected a key priority of EU Cancer Mission agenda: looking beyond treatment and survival to the long-term quality of life and wellbeing of people affected by cancer.
Katie spoke about the importance of meaningful patient and youth engagement in shaping cancer care, pointing out that for Adolescents and Young Adults (AYAs), life after cancer comes with a unique set of challenges:
- returning to education or work,
- navigating mental health,
- rebuilding social connections,
- dealing with stigma,
- and finding the right support.
Progress brings responsibility.
Katie emphasized the importance of ensuring that lived experience is embedded at every level of cancer care, research and decision-making.
This means bridging the gap between European-level initiatives and everyday realities, and making sure every young person, especially those who are isolated, vulnerable or underrepresented, is seen, heard and not left behind.”
