Roberta Sanfilippo: Global Experts Convene in Milan to Address Unanswered Questions in Leiomyosarcoma

Roberta Sanfilippo, Director of Sarcoma Clinical Unit at European Institute of Oncology, shared on LinkedIn:

” The NLMSF International Leiomyosarcoma Roundtable – ‘Addressing the Unanswered Questions in Leiomyosarcoma’, hosted at the European Institute of Oncology on October 2–3, brought together around 100 participants and leading sarcoma experts from across the world.

Two intense days of science, open discussion, unanswered questions, new ideas and, most importantly, a truly international community willing to work together to move the field forward.

Seeing the room full, watching our young fellows and trainees engage with some of the most respected leaders in sarcoma, and feeling their enthusiasm was incredible.

One year ago, this meeting was just an ambitious idea. Seeing what it became

  • the scientific quality
  • the international participation
  • the energy in the room
  • the new collaborations already emerging

made all the work behind it worthwhile.

I am immensely grateful to all the faculty who travelled from around the world, to NLMSF and SPAGN, to our collaborators, sponsors and to everyone who contributed to making this meeting possible.

I am especially proud that this meeting also created an opportunity for the next generation of sarcoma specialists to feel part of an international community. Their enthusiasm may have been one of the greatest successes of all.

We still have many unanswered questions in leiomyosarcoma. But after these two days, I feel even more strongly that we have the right community to address them: together.

Thank you to everyone who made these days so special.”

Herbert Loong, Advisor at Greater Bay Area International Clinical Trial Institute, added:

“Congrats Roberta Sanfilippo, Ryan Denu, Tom Wei-Wu Chen, Elise Nassif Haddad and many others for co-hosting an extremely successful National Leiomyosarcoma Foundation (NLMSF) International Roundtable meeting in Milan.

The amount of energy and enthusiasm amongst all the participants were truly palpable and infectious!

Thanks for involving me in this year’s discussions – and I look forward to future meetings.

Safe travels home everyone!”
