Puneet Sharma: Insights on Patient-Centered Cancer Care and Survivorship

Puneet Sharma, Charter President of the Rotary Club of Gurgaon BraveHearts and Founder of Cancer24x7, shared by Princess Dina Mired, Host of Global Health Dialogues with Princess Dina and Honorary Ambassador of the Harvard Global Health Win-Win Initiative, on LinkedIn:

“This is such an important and meaningful conversation.

As a cancer survivor, I have experienced firsthand how many questions, uncertainties and emotional challenges patients and families face throughout the cancer journey.

Conversations like this remind us how important it is to listen to the patient’s lived experience alongside science and treatment.

This is also what inspired me to create the Cancer24x7 Patient Navigation Handbook – to bring practical, patient – centred guidance to people navigating cancer.

I’m especially grateful to Dr. Jae L. Ross,a licensed clinical psychologist specialising in cancer care at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center , and Assistant Professor of Psychology in Clinical Psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medicine College, for contributing a chapter to the handbook.

His contribution brings an important psychological and emotional perspective to the cancer journey – helping patients, caregivers and clinicians find words for experiences that are often difficult to express.

The handbook is also bringing together voices from different parts of the world. Dr. Adrian Pogacian from Romania, Founder of the INCKA Psycho-Oncology Center and a licensed clinical psychologist with advanced training in psycho-oncology, is contributing to the handbook.

In India, Dr. S. V. S. Deo, Surgical Oncologist and Chairman of Surgical Oncology at Max Healthcare , is contributing a chapter for the next edition.

For me, this is what patient-centred cancer care should look like – bringing together survivors, oncologists, psychologists and experts from different disciplines, while never losing sight of the person behind the diagnosis.

Thank you, Princess Dina Mired and Dr. Urvi Shah , for creating a space where nutrition, survivorship, compassionate communication and patient empowerment are being discussed together.

These conversations truly matter to patients and survivors.”

Quoting Princess Dina Mired:

Can nutrition influence cancer progression?
What role does the gut microbiome play in immune health?
Can dietary changes improve outcomes for people living with precancerous conditions?

And why are scientists calling nutrition one of the next frontiers in cancer research?

In this episode of Global Health Dialogues, Princess Dina speaks with Dr. Urvi Shah, hematologist, oncologist, physician scientist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and cancer survivor.

Dr. Shah shares how her own cancer diagnosis changed her perspective as a physician and discusses her pioneering clinical research investigating how high-fiber, plant-based nutrition may influence inflammation, the microbiome, immune function, and the progression of multiple myeloma precursor conditions.

Together, they explore lifestyle medicine, evidence-based nutrition, the importance of compassionate communication in cancer care, and why empowering patients with practical tools may become an essential part of future cancer prevention.
