“Prof Kui Hian SIM’s remarks on Sarawak’s health workforce this week resonate strongly with something I have been thinking about for some time: we need to understand and invest in health workforce resilience.

We invest in state – of – the – art hospitals, breakthrough medicines and sophisticated technologies. But none of them delivers healthcare.

People do!

And the data we need are not simply better headcounts. We need to understand how our workforce moves, develops and adapts; what makes people stay or leave, and where skills and capacity are most vulnerable. Generating that evidence requires investment, and that evidence should guide where and how we invest.

Nazik Hammad said something so powerful at APOCP last week that has stayed with me:

‘Just as we demand better access to medicines and technologies, we must demand better access to the cancer workforce needed to deliver care.’
