Michelle Mitchell OBE: Advancing Global Collaboration in Pancreatic Cancer Research

Michelle Mitchell OBE, Chief Executive at Cancer Research UK (CRUK), shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Delighted to be at the inaugural Cancer Research UK (CRUK) Pancreatic Cancer Conference with over 350 researchers, clinicians and partners from around the world. Our shared aim is to make faster progress for people affected by pancreatic cancer.

Momentum is building – from deepening our understanding of tumour biology to advances in early detection and exciting developments in targeted treatments announced at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) earlier this year, which you can read about here.  There’s a growing sense that much needed progress is possible for pancreatic patients and their loved ones.

Pancreatic cancer survival has improved far less than in many other cancer types, and too many people are diagnosed late, with limited treatment options.

Thank you to Giulia Biffi for opening and hosting the conference, to Christine Iacobuzio-Donahue for a powerful keynote speech and to Lesley Goodburn for taking the time to share your experience of a pancreatic cancer diagnosis and the importance of research.

People living with pancreatic cancer rightly demand that we make faster progress. No one individual, organisation, or country will beat cancer alone, which is why events like this one are so important.”
