Michael Sapienza: Highlights from the 2025 ACS NCCRT Annual Meeting

Michael Sapienza, Chief Executive Officer of the Colorectal Cancer Alliance, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“What an energizing and meaningful few days at the 2025 American Cancer Society, National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable (NCCRT) Annual Meeting.

A few highlights:

I moderated the ‘Right-Sizing CRC Screening Guidelines’ panel with Aasma Shaukat and Rebecca Siegel and I discussed my recent Frontiers in Science article about a practical framework for navigating the evolving screening landscape.

Marianne Pearson, Pearson, VP of Cancer Care at the Colorectal Cancer Alliance, shared a powerful conversation during the ‘Lived Experience’ panel, bringing forward the voices of survivors and caregivers. Her leadership continues to keep patient realities at the center of our work.

A bittersweet moment as my term on the NCCRT Steering Committee ends. I’m grateful for the collaboration and collective drive that shaped my experience, and I’m proud to announce that Alliance Director of Prevention, Dionne Smith Christopher, PMP was elected to join the committee. Dionne brings deep expertise and a clear commitment to moving the mission forward.

As I reflect on the week, I am reminded that meaningful progress is never the result of one person or one institution. It comes from a committed community of researchers, clinicians, advocates, patients, survivors, caregivers, and partners all working with urgency and purpose.”
