Haimanot Kasahun: Privileged to Speak on Multiple Important Topics at AORTIC 2025

Haimanot Kasahun, Clinical Oncologist at St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Had a succesful participation at AORTIC 2025 in Hammamet, Tunisia. I got a privilege to speak on multiple important topics.

One of the most important topics I had a chance to deliver speechs at AORTIC 2025 is on our project the Dermatologic Atlas of Antineoplastic Toxicity In African Cancer Patients which African patients are underrepresented in clinical trials (<5% )and common toxicity gradings like CTCAE would be under question to adopt to African cancer patients as form and degree of severity of toxicity differs among patient races. I would like to call for collaboration on this important practice changing topic.

Its time to change the statusqou for women in oncology. ‘Equal degrees don’t lead to equal opportunities ‘ Dr Duma.

A global effort is needed to improve cancercare in Conflict stricken areas in Africa. Cancer patients in conflict areas has to go through sad reality of multiple war ‘War in War‘ situation.

Strengthning the role of regional societies like Ethiopian Society of Hematology and OncologyESHO will have enormous impact in the region ‘s cancer care capacity building. One way to do that is to collaborate with continental and regional societies and of course have output focused and less beurocratic leadership like Munir Awol, president of Ethiopian Society of Hematology and Oncology-ESHO and Miriam Mutebi, president of AORTIC- Africa

I admit it was a great experience to sit together and discuss with my mentors Nazik Hammad, Verna Vanderpuye and experts Chris Booth, Dr. Chinenye Iwuji and many others experts.

Finally, I had a chance to enjoy the sunset at Sidi BOA Said with the beautiful sight of the Mediterranean sea.”
