WHO’s Global Cancer Report Highlights the Need for Equitable, High-Quality Cancer Care Worldwide – ESMO

ESMO – European Society for Medical Oncology, shared on LinkedIn:

ESMO hails World Health Organization’s Global Status Report on Cancer, a global reference guiding efforts to improve cancer outcomes.

Among the report’s recommendations to strengthen cancer control, several priorities closely align with ESMO’s policy efforts:

  • Comprehensive Cancer Care as part of Universal Health Coverage
  • Equitable access to high-value, patient-centred treatment and innovation
  • Investment in the Oncology Workforce and cancer data systems

ESMO reaffirms its commitment to equitable, high-quality cancer care and looks forward to continuing its collaboration with WHO and partners worldwide.

ESMO thanks raffaella casolino and Dario Trapani for their contributions to this initiative.”

To which Dario Trapani, Medical Oncologist at European Institute of Oncology, added:

The WHO Global Status Report on Cancer is the key reference for cancer control and, above all, a service to the cancer community.

The value of this report will lie in its implementation:

  • translating evidence into political commitment
  • informing on how to develop stronger health systems
  • aiming at measurable improvements in equitable, high-quality cancer care.

ESMO has a critical role in helping carry these recommendations forward, connecting global evidence with oncology practice, professional leadership and policy action – and aligns with the overall ESMO Mission.

This report should not simply inform the community. It should help mobilise it!
