Ethiopian Society of Hematology and Oncology – ESHO shared a post on LinkedIn:
“A Voice That Touched Every Heart.
One of the most memorable moments of ESHO’s 6th Annual General Meeting was hearing Commissioner Lelise Duga share her personal cancer journey.
As Commissioner Lelise Duga spoke about her lived experience, the room fell silent. It was not a policy discussion, a scientific presentation, or a statistic, it was a deeply human story of courage, resilience, uncertainty, hope, and survival.
Many of us were moved, reminded of the realities that patients and their families face every day. Her story highlighted something we often forget: behind every diagnosis is a person, a family, and a life forever changed.
At ESHO, we believe that meaningful progress in cancer care happens when science, policy, and lived experience come together. Commissioner Lelise’s voice has become an important part of that progress.
Through her openness and advocacy, she has helped bring cancer survivorship into the public conversation and inspired action far beyond hospitals and conference halls.
We are deeply grateful for her willingness to share such a personal journey and for her continued commitment to improving the lives of people affected by cancer in Ethiopia. Some people contribute to a cause. Others help build a movement.
Commissioner Lelise is undoubtedly among those helping move cancer care forward in Ethiopia.
Thank you for your courage, your advocacy, and your voice.”
