Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) shared on LinkedIn:
“CPRIT Chief Prevention and Communications Officer, Dr. Ruth Rechis was asked to speak at the Occupational Flight Exposure and Cancer Risk Symposium – an inspiring event hosted by NASA, the United States Air Force, and UT MD Anderson. This symposium brought together an incredible group of experts committed to strengthening the evidence base, building collaborations, and identifying real, actionable strategies to protect pilots and astronauts.
During the Funding Sources and Opportunities session, Dr. Rechis joined a panel alongside:
- Pataje G.S. Prasanna, The National Institutes of Health / National Cancer Institute (NCI)
- Norman Garza, Jr., Texas Space Commission
- Janapriya (JP) Saha, NASA – National Aeronautics and Space Administration
- Andrea DiCarlo-Cohen, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID)
- Philip Castle, National Cancer Institute (NCI)
This session offered a great opportunity to highlight how CPRIT’s statewide investments can support the innovative research and prevention work across the state. Dr. Rechis shared how Texas’ historic $6 billion commitment enables CPRIT to accelerate cancer research, expand prevention efforts, and strengthen the life sciences ecosystem across the state. She also emphasized CPRIT’s broad impact with more than 2,285 grants and over $4 billion awarded across discovery science, product development, and prevention that are helping move ideas forward from early research to meaningful outcomes for patients and communities.
It was inspiring to see how seriously this community is taking the mission of protecting those who protect and explore for all of us. At CPRIT, we are excited about the partnerships, ideas, and solutions that will grow out of this symposium. Let’s keep the momentum going.”
