“Did you know that for many families, one of the major barriers to accessing childhood cancer treatment is simply getting there?
Successful treatment starts with being able to reach it. Yet for many children and adolescents with cancer, getting to a treatment centre is a challenge in itself.
In some low – and middle-income countries, families may travel for hours – or even days – to reach the hospital, only to face the same long journey home after treatment.
Imagine doing that with a child who has just undergone surgery, chemotherapy, or another intensive treatment.
For some families, this simply becomes impossible.
And when children cannot reach treatment, appointments are missed, treatment can be interrupted, the risk of treatment abandonment increases – ultimately affecting a child’s chances of survival.
That is why CCI is launching its Transportation Fund.
The programme will support CCI members in helping children with cancer and their caregivers get to and from treatment, addressing one of the most practical – yet consequential – barriers to care.
The CCI Transportation Fund was developed in strategic partnership with La Fondation La Roche-Posay, whose support has been instrumental in bringing the programme to life.
The first Call for Applications is now open.
