“Thought of the Day:
Every day you have the chance to make a difference in the lives of the people around you.
Radiotherapy is part of the treatment in about 40% of childhood cancer cases, and it is the treatment with the most significant side effects. That’s why treating a child with radiation carries great responsibility.
Noi Facem Un Spital meant building a hospital that brought together, for the first time, all the medical specialties needed to treat children with cancer in a truly multidisciplinary way. But for children in Romania to have the same chance as children in Europe or the U.S., it is our responsibility as a society to invest in the education of medical teams. Because walls and equipment alone will not save lives.
That’s why we at Dăruiește Viață have facilitated partnerships with the best in the world—including Prinses Máxima Centrum.
Prinses Máxima Centrum voor kinderoncologie invests significantly in research and education to increase the survival rate for children with cancer—not only in the Netherlands but across Europe. This is why they partnered with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and began training radiation oncologists, physicists, and technicians—the entire radiotherapy department staff—across Europe.
This week, this partnership was launched in Utrecht with the participation of Queen Máxima of the Netherlands. One of our radiation oncologists, Adrian Radu, had the opportunity to present our hospital and our project to a distinguished audience, including Queen Máxima, representatives from the International Atomic Energy Agency, and Prinses Máxima Centrum.
Through this partnership, the entire radiation oncology team from Marie Curie Hospital is now being trained by some of the best specialists in Europe, in the Netherlands.
Thank you, Geert Janssens and prof. dr. Rob Pieters, for this incredible opportunity for our children.
This is how we save lives: by understanding the complexity of the medical system and providing the holistic care that every child deserves.”
