Amy C. Moore: Five Years After a Breast Cancer Diagnosis, A Story of Early Detection

Amy C. Moore, Director of Patient Engagement and Advocacy at Summit Therapeutics, Inc., shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Five years ago this summer, my then 76 yr old mom was diagnosed with early stage breast cancer that was caught through a routine mammogram.

Since I had access to her patient portal because of some other health issues, I found out before she did. This gave me time to consult with some friends of mine who are breast cancer experts and to think about how to explain it to her and my dad.

I remember distinctly telling her,

‘This is something you have but not what will take you out.’

I could hear them both exhale over the phone.

I am thankful that we are approaching the 5-year mark since her diagnosis. I am grateful that I was able to help guide her through it, along with her incredible care team. And I am a staunch advocate for mammography, even in older women.”
