“A cancer diagnosis shouldn’t come with a maze attached, but for millions of patients, it does.
This new paper introduces the Global Alliance for Cancer Patient Navigation, a worldwide push to make navigation a standard part of oncology care, not an afterthought. The idea behind it is simple- pair every patient with someone who helps them find their way through appointments, paperwork, costs, and decisions, especially in under-resourced and marginalized communities where those barriers hit hardest.
What stood out to me about this paper is how practically it’s framed. Navigation isn’t proposed as a nice-to-have: it’s backed by evidence of shorter diagnosis times, fewer hospitalizations, and better patient satisfaction. And the paper is honest about what sustainability actually requires i.e. real funding and fair wages for navigators, not just goodwill.
Sharing this as an infographic because I think this is work more people in oncology and health policy should know about.”
