“A 2-day meeting on Cancer Research and Collaboration, organized by the Federal University of Health Sciences Azare, in collaboration with the University of Miami (FUHSA-UM), was held in Abuja, Nigeria. It was an enriching experience to engage with members of the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, University of Miami.
Dr. Matthew Schlumbrecht, MD, MPH presented findings from their ongoing clinical trials of Niraparib in populations of African Ancestry. Most of the findings, greatly underscore the importance of including diverse populations in clinical trials. Advocates like myself must continue to push for such partnerships that widen research.
In our panel discussion on Cervical Cancer Elimination: Prospects and Challenges, I shared the wins and challenges of the Medicaid Cancer Foundation in Kebbi State while carrying out a state-wide cervical cancer screening program. Our focus remains steadfast on the three who elimination pillars: Vaccination (90%), Screening (70%), and Treatment (90%).
I commend the Federal University of Health Sciences, Azare, under the leadership of its VC and NMA chairman, Prof Bala Mohd Dr. Audu, and the University of Miami for this collaboration and commitment to advancing cancer research globally.”
