Zhiheng Xu: Some inspiring books to read during the holiday
Zhiheng Xu, President of the FDA Statistical Association, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Are you looking for some inspiring books to read during the holiday, or search for a perfect book gift Here are three impactful reads from my 2023 list that left a lasting impression on me.
- First 90 Days by Michael Watkin
At the beginning of this year, I transferred from the world of medical devices to drugs, leading a statistical team at FDA/CDER. Recommended by Hisani Madison, I picked up this book which proved to be a great resource. The book mirrored my experience perfectly as I was going through the transition challenges. For anyone who is in the job transition, take a look at this book and you will find it useful.
- For Blood and Money by Nathan Vardi
If you work in the world of drug development, the book “For Blood and Money” is likely to strike a chord with you. It unfolds a gripping narrative about a cohort of scientists and investors who successfully bring revolutionary drugs to market – not once, but twice. Later in the year, we had an opportunity to meet with Nathan Vardi when he came to FDA OCE to share his perspectives on the development of cancer treatments and how biotech built a blockbuster drug.
- The Art of Possibilities by Rosa and Ben Zander
I found this book interesting because it offers practical guidance on turning concepts like living in the moment into actionable steps. It’s fascinating how the authors provide creative practices for being present with the current reality. If you’re seeking to explore innovative possibilities in both personal and professional life, this book offers valuable insights.
So what books have influenced you in 2023? Love to hear your recommendations.”
