Abhishek Shankar: Honored to have been part of the Illuminate Oncology Town Hall 2.0

Abhishek Shankar, Assistant Professor of Radiation Oncology at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Thrilled and honored to have been part of the Illuminate Oncology Town Hall 2.0, hosted by the HN Reliance Hospital, Mumbai, on the 8th and 9th of February 2025 at the iconic Jio Convention Centre.

This remarkable event, under the visionary leadership of Sewanti Limaye, brought together some of the most brilliant minds in global oncology space to discuss advancements, challenges, and collaborative strategies in cancer care.

It was inspiring to witness a strong emphasis on cancer prevention and screening, crucial pillars in reducing the global cancer burden that is not been discussed in oncology conferences.

I had the incredible opportunity to contribute in multiple roles during this prestigious conference. As a speaker, I presented on the ‘Highlights of 2024 – Status Update on Lung Cancer Screening in India,’ where I shared insights on the current landscape, progress made, and the road ahead for early detection efforts. It was encouraging to see the enthusiasm and engagement from the audience on this critical topic.

Beyond my talk, I had the privilege of moderating a dynamic panel discussion, where we started from basics of cancer screening and delved into innovative approaches and practical solutions for strengthening cancer screening and prevention strategies in India.

The diverse perspectives from panellists across various specialities from across geography led to a rich and thought-provoking exchange of ideas, emphasizing the importance of learning from best practices in the high-income world.

Additionally, being a panellist in a high-impact plenary session was an invaluable experience. We explored ways to bridge gaps in cancer care, with a particular focus on increasing access to timely diagnosis and treatment, especially for underserved populations. The discussions highlighted the need for robust infrastructure, community-level awareness, and the integration of advanced technologies in screening and prevention programs.

A huge thanks to Sewanti and the entire organizing committee for curating such an insightful and impactful event. She emphasised on playing our role as an important stakeholder rather always blaming the Government.

I am grateful for the opportunity to engage with so many passionate experts and look forward to continuing these important conversations and collaborations.

This power-packed event reaffirms the power of collective effort in driving meaningful change. Let’s keep pushing the boundaries in cancer care, with prevention and screening at the forefront of our mission.”
