Pennsylvania State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center Recognized as ACS Surgical Quality Partner
Pennsylvania State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center has been recognized by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) as a Surgical Quality Partner through its participation in the Commission on Cancer.
This designation highlights the hospital’s commitment to providing the highest standards of care for cancer patients.
Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center is the only academic medical center in central Pennsylvania, offering advanced, patient-centered care for a wide range of conditions, including cancer, heart, vascular, and neurological diseases.
The medical center is located on the same campus as the Penn State Cancer Institute, Penn State College of Medicine, and Penn State Health Children’s Hospital, which is the most comprehensive children’s hospital in the region, serving patients between Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.
The ACS Commission on Cancer brings together various professional organizations with the goal of improving survival rates and quality of life for cancer patients.
Michael Reed, chief of the Division of Thoracic Surgery and chair of the Cancer Committee at Hershey Medical Center, expressed his pride in the achievement, noting that it reflects the hospital’s comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to cancer care.
“This accreditation is a reflection of the exceptional care we provide to our patients, and it also speaks to the dedication and expertise of our medical staff,” said Dr. Reed, who is also a professor of surgery at Penn State College of Medicine.
Hospitals receiving this recognition undergo a detailed review every three years to ensure they meet the ACS’s high standards for cancer care.
These standards encompass everything from diagnostics and treatments to patient support and referrals to community resources.
“Milton S. Hershey Medical Center has demonstrated an ongoing commitment to providing the highest quality patient care, while continually evaluating and improving that care.” – Patricia Turner, Executive Director and CEO of the ACS
