Eslam Maher: Epidemiology and Clinical Outcomes of Childhood CNS Cancers in a Large LMIC Pediatric Oncology Center

Eslam Maher, Biostatistician at Imperial College London, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“”One indisputable truth defines pediatric oncology: the most important prognostic factor for a child with cancer is where he or she was born.”

My paper on 5000+ kids with brain cancer is finally published (in a Q1 Epidemiology journal)!

I was very lucky to spend years on this data in my former workplace, with a brilliant pediatric neuro-oncology team (authors). I’ve also personally known some of those children and their families throughout their treatment journeys…

There are ~100 different types of childhood brain tumors, and it’s their leading cause of cancer deaths. While ~90% of the cases worldwide come from developing countries, there is hardly any data from there.

This study describes their treatment and survival outcomes, and discusses the unique position of CCHE-57357 in the region.
