Harish Nagaraj: Advancing Neuroendocrine Tumor Care in East and Sub-Saharan Africa
Harish Nagaraj, In Charge of the Integrated Molecular Imaging Centre at the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral, and Research Hospital, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Advancing Neuroendocrine Tumor Care in East and Sub-Saharan Africa: DOTANOC PET/CT in Kenya.
Case: We recently followed up with a patient diagnosed with a liver neuroendocrine tumor (NET), currently on long-acting Sandostatin (octreotide) therapy.
He was sent to evaluate treatment response by a Ga-68 DOTANOC PET/CT scan, a crucial imaging tool for somatostatin receptor–positive tumors.
The result: Stable disease, with no evidence of progression — a reassuring outcome that underscores the efficacy of ongoing therapy.
Importantly, DOTANOC PET/CT imaging is currently only available in Kenya within the East and Sub-Saharan African region. This advanced modality offers unparalleled sensitivity in NET detection and monitoring, allowing for precise, targeted management.
As access to nuclear medicine expands, we continue to see the impact of localized innovation in improving outcomes for complex cancers like NETs.”
