Nirmala Bhoo Pathy: Honored to present the Johannes Clemmesen Lecture at the 2024 Scientific Conference of IACR

“I had the distinct honor of presenting the Johannes Clemmesen Lecture at the 2024 Scientific Conference of the International Association of Cancer Registries(IACR) in Beijing.

It is both humbling and gratifying to have nearly two decades of my work acknowledged and compared to that of a world-renowned cancer epidemiologist.

As shared in my lecture, my work on the financial implications for individuals and families affected by cancer has evolved my identity from an epidemiologist to a passionate advocate for health economics, and now, an aspiring implementation scientist.

I remain hopeful for my success in contributing to a better economic future for families impacted by cancer in the LMICs.

Would really like to thank Isabelle Soerjomataram, Freddie Bray, Ait-Allah MEJRI, Richard Sullivan, Ophira Ginsburg and Dr Balraj Sethi so much.

Additionally, I feel a profound sense of encouragement from a larger community that stands behind me… thank you all for your belief in my work!

p/s Just in case you don’t know who is Clemmesen, please look at the attached photo.

Simply put, I would say he is the Father of Cancer Epidemiology!”
