Quoting Taneal D. Carter’s post:
“I am filled with gratitude for the incredible opportunity to attend and present at the annual APHA meeting this year. It was a privilege to share my team’s insights during my 15-minute presentation, where I focused on piloting the Health Equity Report Card in Academic Oncology Settings. This initiative aims to test the feasibility and usability of the tool in measuring equitable care practices, hypothesizing that collection of data and provision of scores will result in organizational changes that improve equitable care delivery over time.
Three additional presentations followed mine, centered around the shared theme of Fostering Health Equity through Health Administration.
Following the presentations, I had the honor of participating in a 45-minute panel discussion covering a variety of health equity related topics, including how to mitigate working in silos, improving diversity in clinical trials, the importance of partnering with CBOs, and more. It was a vibrant and energizing discussion, and I found it rewarding to engage with attendees on these important topics. Collaborating with experts in the field not only enriched my experience, but also provided valuable perspectives on the challenges and advancements within our community.
I also had the privilege of attending various sessions, which allowed me to explore new research and initiatives taking place on the public health front. I was inspired by the innovative approaches being developed to tackle pressing health issues and the collective commitment to fostering equity in healthcare.
Overall, the annual APHA meeting was a great experience that reinforced my dedication to advancing health equity. I am truly thankful for the connections made and the knowledge gained, all of which will undoubtedly influence my work moving forward.
