St. Elizabeth Healthcare Unveils The Yung Family Cancer Center with $10 Million Donation

St. Elizabeth Healthcare proudly celebrated the renaming of its Cancer Center to The Yung Family Cancer Center.

Yung Family

This momentous occasion made possible by a historic $10 million gift from the Yung Family Foundation. This significant contribution not only honors the Yung family’s commitment to healthcare but also strengthens the center’s mission to provide enhanced cancer care, focusing on early detection, quality treatment, clinical research, and exceptional patient support—all within the community.

William J. Yung III, who serves as president of Columbia Sussex and the Yung Family Foundation, has a longstanding commitment to philanthropy in healthcare.

His previous donation of $7 million in 2021 was the largest in St. Elizabeth’s history, funding the naming of the Florence Wormald Heart and Vascular Institute in honor of his mother.

This latest gift exemplifies the family’s dedication to improving health outcomes and advancing cancer treatment.

The Yung Family Cancer Center, which opened its doors in September 2020, spans 250,000 square feet and offers a comprehensive range of cancer detection, diagnosis, and treatment services—all under one roof. The facility emphasizes precision medicine and genomic health, aiming to provide seamless experiences for patients through cutting-edge screening, education, prevention, and clinical research.

Douglas Flora, the executive medical director of the center, expressed deep gratitude for the Yung Family’s generosity, stating,

“They share our deep values about quality care. As noted by Siddhartha Mukherjee in The Emperor of All Maladies, ‘the cancer landscape has been radically reshaped by philanthropic investment.’ Their support will drive the innovation and compassionate care that our region depends on, ensuring access to the most advanced treatments.”

Thanks to the Yung Family’s commitment, the center has successfully attracted 40 new cancer care providers specializing in various subspecialties, significantly enhancing St. Elizabeth’s capacity to deliver personalized cancer medicine. Dr. Flora emphasized the profound impact of this support, saying, “The true impact of these dollars isn’t just in the dollars—it’s in the lives saved, the families supported, and the communities transformed.”

The renaming ceremony was held in a private setting to respect the patients utilizing the facility. This celebration marks a pivotal moment in the community’s ongoing fight against cancer, reinforcing the importance of philanthropy in transforming healthcare.

The Yung Family’s remarkable gift will help rewrite the future of cancer care at St. Elizabeth, ensuring world-class treatment is accessible right here at home.
