Roupen Odabashian: Fee-for-service harms both patients and physicians
Roupen Odabashian shared on Linkedin:
” Physicians should not be paid for their services!
Physicians should be paid for the quality of their services!
Each day, I grow more convinced that fee-for-service harms both patients and physicians. This model pressures doctors to prioritize quantity over quality, leading to ethical concerns and affecting physician well-being.
As physicians, we’re sometimes required to do nothing to avoid harm, but fee-for-service pushes unnecessary interventions.
We need to transition to value-based care, rewarding us for the quality and effectiveness of our care, not the volume.
We must advocate for systems that prioritize patient outcomes, ensuring care is guided by necessity and best practices rather than profit.
Shifting focus from quantity to value will improve physician care and support the integrity of the medical profession.”
