The Christie NHS Foundation Trust shared on LinkedIn:
“Last week, we welcomed researchers and clinicians from across Manchester’s cancer research community to the first Christie Ignite Lecture.
The new series, organised by Dr Jonathan Lim, is designed to bring people together to share ideas, make connections, and discuss the future of cancer medicine.
Our first speaker, Professor Samra Turajlić, Honorary Medical Oncology Consultant at The Christie and Director of the Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute, shared her research journey and her vision for the future of cancer research.
She also spoke about the values that underpin her work: trust, openness, transparency, kindness, and supporting early career researchers.
A key theme of the lecture was collaboration.
Samra highlighted the importance of bringing together expertise from different disciplines, moving discoveries into practice more quickly, and making sure new technologies such as AI deliver real benefits for patients.

Throughout the lecture, she reinforced the idea that progress happens when people work together.
At The Christie, we know that sharing expertise and building partnerships helps us tackle complex challenges, speed up progress, and improve cancer care.
We’re looking forward to seeing where the Ignite series leads next.”
