“Last Thursday, September 3rd, at the Mississippi Colorectal Cancer Roundtable (MSCCRT) annual in-person meeting, we launched MS80 By 2030-a Colorectal Cancer Screening campaign focused on Mississippians ages 45–59.
Why this age group, you may ask?
Unfortunately, this is the age group we need to quickly get up to date on colorectal cancer screening.
The 2024 BRFSS data show that only 38.4% of Mississippians ages 45-49 have completed colorectal cancer screening.
The numbers are better in the 50-59 age group, at 62.3%, but we still have a long way to go. If we can get both age groups to 80% screening-and sustain that level-I believe we can reduce the burden of colorectal cancer in Mississippi.
At last week’s meeting, I asked attendees to make a MS80 By 2030 pledge – a commitment to do something they can realistically complete to help increase colorectal cancer screening.
Here is mine as an example.
We received plenty of pledges, and now comes the follow-up!
But the medal for turning a pledge into action the fastest goes to Annie Oeth, MSM!
Annie’s pledge was to stay up to date on CRC screening and spread the word about MS80By2030.
And she wasted no time spreading the word!
