About Foluke Sarimiye

Dr. Foluke Sarimiye is a clinical lecturer in Radiation/Clinical Oncology and a Psycho-Oncologist at the University of Ibadan and University College Hospital, Ibadan. She is a dedicated practitioner and researcher with a profound interest in cancer control, prevention, health disparities, and the psychosocial aspects of cancer, spanning from diagnosis to survivorship or end of life.

As the Executive Director and Co-founder of the Patela Care Foundation (PCF), Dr. Sarimiye leads initiatives to provide psychosocial support to two resilient yet vulnerable groups: individuals and families affected by cancer, and internally displaced persons.

Dr. Sarimiye coordinates undergraduate medical student training, postgraduate training in psycho-oncology, and residency training in radiation oncology at the Department of Radiation Oncology, University of Ibadan/University College Hospital Ibadan.

She also serves as the Financial Secretary for the Association of Radiation and Clinical Oncologists of Nigeria (ARCON), Co-Chair of the Young Oncologist Forum at ARCON, and Chair of the Education, Research, and Training Committee, POSON.

She has received several accolades, including the Young Investigator Award from the International Society of Pediatrics and the Distinguish Award, For Dedication and Selfless Support from the Medical Women Association of Nigeria.

In her leisure time, Dr. Sarimiye enjoys reading, listening to music, engaging in humanitarian services, and has a keen interest in art, culture, poetry, maxims, history, traveling, tourism, and interior design.

About Abeid Mohamed Athman Omar

Abeid Mohamed Athman Omar is a Specialist in Clinical Oncology with expertise in both medical and radiation oncology based at Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital, Kilifi, Kenya. He also serves as a consultant for the International Cancer Institute (ICI) in Eldoret, Kenya. He is a fellow and graduate of the European School of Oncology (ESCO) and an ESMO-certified oncologist.

Professionally, Dr. Omar has accumulated experience working as an assistant clinical oncologist at the Comprehensive Cancer Center in Alexandria, Egypt, and as a resident in the Clinical Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Department at Alexandria University.

He has also worked in various roles in Kenya, including as a medical officer at Kalacha Sub-County Hospital and Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, and as a clinical resident at Donetsk Regional Cancer Center.

Dr. Omar has been recognized with several prestigious awards, including the ASCO IDEA Award in 2024, the European School of Oncology Mentorship Award in 2022-2023, and the ASCO Virtual Mentorship Award in 2019-2020.

Dr. Omar’s primary interests lie in breast cancer, clinical trials and research, survivorship, radiotherapy, immuno-target therapies, as well as community and global oncology. He has published in peer-reviewed journals on topics such as breast cancer in young women, pregnancy-associated breast cancer, and pregnancy after breast cancer.
