University of Ottawa Complex General Surgical Oncology Fellowship

Two-year CGSO fellowship at The Ottawa Hospital (General, Civic, Riverside), fully approved by the Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO) and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC). Training spans colorectal, upper GI, sarcoma/melanoma, HPB, and breast, plus one-month rotations in medical oncology, radiation oncology, and pathology. Includes a 3-month integrated research block and 3–6 months of electives (options in peritoneal malignancy via inter-university agreement with University of Toronto, palliative care, community surgical oncology, HPB, gastric, sarcoma, oncoplastic breast, head & neck, or research). Strong research ecosystem via the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute (OHRI).

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Completed (or near completion of) residency and board exam in a recognized General Surgery training program.

  • Demonstrated dedication to surgical oncology and interest in research.

  • Program accepts 1 fellow per year; applicants are interviewed and ranked through NRMP.

  • Funding note: full salary funding currently available for Canadian citizens or Canadian permanent residents (including those trained abroad).
