MASCC 2025 Presidential Training Fellowship Spotlight: Dr. Chia Jie Tan
The MASCC 2025 Presidential Training Fellowship recognizes seven outstanding oncology leaders worldwide, and OncoDaily highlights one of them for their dedication to advancing supportive cancer care.
The Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer (MASCC) Presidential Training Fellowship is among the most prestigious honors for emerging leaders in oncology. It celebrates early-career physicians, nurses, and researchers who are redefining cancer care through innovation, education, and international collaboration. Each year, only a select group of exceptional individuals from around the globe is chosen to represent the future of supportive oncology.
As part of OncoDaily’s exclusive MASCC 2025 coverage, we are spotlighting this year’s fellowship recipients. Today, we feature Chia Jie Tan, a health economics and outcomes researcher with a strong focus on cancer survivorship and supportive care.
About Chia Jie Tan
Chia Jie Tan began their career as an oncology pharmacist in Malaysia and is now a full-time researcher at the College of Pharmacy, University of Utah, specializing in health economics and outcomes research. Their work focuses on cancer survivorship and supportive care, particularly examining financial toxicity and how cancer-related adverse effects influence patient decision-making and care trajectories.
Chia Jie has been an active MASCC member since 2018, first joining as a PhD student. They describe MASCC as the ideal platform for fostering collaboration and dialogue among healthcare providers, patient advocates, and researchers worldwide, helping to improve care for people affected by cancer while nurturing their own growth as a researcher.
Chia Jie Tan on Receiving the Fellowship
“At the recent MASCC annual meeting, I was honored to receive one of the SC 2030 President’s Training Fellowships, where I will have the opportunity to work alongside amazing early-career researchers in advancing supportive care in cancer as part of the MASCC SC 2030 movement.
There has been increasing emphasis on supportive care in cancer to ensure that people affected by cancer not only receive guideline-concordant anti-cancer treatment but also comprehensive and coordinated management of treatment-related toxicities, comorbidities, cancer-related complications, and other health-related concerns.
The MASCC SC2030 movement embodies this vision by describing the state of supportive care that is desired by 2030 – patient-centered and evidence-driven clinical care that is well-coordinated within the care team and across the healthcare system. On a personal level, I am hopeful that my work in understanding how cost issues and treatment-related toxicities affect the patient journey as they navigate the healthcare system will contribute to this larger movement. I am also excited to collaborate with MASCC and the supportive care community to achieve this shared vision and improve the care offered to people affected by cancer.”
Advancing Supportive Oncology
Through this fellowship, Chia Jie Tan will join a cohort of early-career leaders working to strengthen evidence-based, patient-centered supportive care worldwide. Their research and advocacy on the financial and treatment-related challenges faced by cancer patients aim to improve both policy and clinical practice, ensuring that supportive care is integrated as a core component of comprehensive cancer management.
Stay tuned to OncoDaily’s MASCC 2025 coverage as we feature the remaining fellowship awardees, each bringing unique expertise, leadership, and global vision to the future of supportive oncology. These profiles aim to inspire global dialogue, foster collaboration, and celebrate the professionals working tirelessly to elevate cancer care standards worldwide.
