MASCC 2025 Presidential Training Fellowship Spotlight: Celia Díez de los Ríos de la Serna

MASCC 2025 Presidential Training Fellowship recognizes seven outstanding oncology leaders worldwide, and OncoDaily highlights one of them for their commitment to advancing supportive cancer care.

The Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer (MASCC) Presidential Training Fellowship is one of the most prestigious honors for emerging leaders in oncology, recognizing early-career physicians, nurses, and researchers who are redefining cancer care through innovation, education, and international collaboration. Each year, only a small group of exceptional individuals is chosen from around the globe to represent the future of supportive oncology.

As part of OncoDaily’s exclusive MASCC 2025 coverage, we are spotlighting this year’s seven fellowship recipients. Today, we feature Celia Díez de los Ríos de la Serna (RN, MSc, PhD), an Oncology Advanced Nurse Practitioner whose work bridges clinical excellence, research, and education in cancer care.

Celia Díez de los Ríos de la Serna on Receiving the Fellowship

“As a cancer nurse currently involved in clinical practice, research, and education, I’ve always been drawn to initiatives that place patients’ quality of life at the center of oncology. My connection to MASCC comes from that shared value, as well as its unique, multidisciplinary, and patient-centered approach to supportive cancer care.

I’ve always found MASCC to be an open and inclusive organization, welcoming professionals from diverse backgrounds and levels of expertise. Its commitment, particularly through this Fellowship project, to advancing supportive care across borders, disciplines, and systems deeply resonates with my own values and professional interests.

The MASCC 2030 Ambition Statements reflect a bold, patient-focused vision for the future, one in which supportive care is seen as essential, not optional, for every person with cancer. The Fellowship offered a unique opportunity to actively contribute to that vision, work with like-minded professionals, and learn from leaders I’ve long admired and followed in the field.

Having worked on projects related to cancer prevention, patient empowerment, and oncology education, I was especially motivated to apply my skills to a project with real-world policy impact – helping to embed supportive care as a cornerstone of both national and international cancer strategies.”

Stay tuned to OncoDaily’s MASCC 2025 coverage as we feature the remaining fellowship awardees, each bringing unique expertise, leadership, and global vision to the future of supportive oncology.

These profiles aim to inspire global dialogue, encourage collaboration, and celebrate the professionals working tirelessly to elevate cancer care standards worldwide.
