November 9th is National Lung Cancer Screening Day

National Lung Cancer Screening Day is observed to raise awareness about the importance of early detection of lung cancer.

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States, but when detected early, it is more treatable, with improved survival rates.

On this day, health professionals encourage individuals at high risk—such as current or former smokers aged 50 and older—to get screened for lung cancer using low-dose CT scans. Screening has been shown to reduce mortality from lung cancer by catching tumors early, before they spread.

National Lung Cancer Screening Day serves as a reminder that early detection can save lives and is a critical step in the fight against lung cancer. Through education, access to screening programs, and support for those at risk, this day aims to make a difference in lung cancer outcomes across the country.

Arif Gamal:

“I Love You Get Screened. Five words that can save a life.

Lung cancer screening takes just a few minutes and research shows getting regular annual screening is an effective way to find lung cancer early, when treatment is more likely to be successful.

Not sure if lung cancer screening is for you? The American Cancer Society recommends screening for people between the ages of 50 and 80 who actively smoke or formerly smoked and have a 20-year or greater pack-year history.

Noting the update in guidelines: lower age to start screening (from 55 to 50), and eliminating the label of “long ago smoker”, acknowledging that smoking 20 pack years at any point in your life necessitates surveillance with screening.

Estela Rodriguez:

“Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center one of the few sites in FL opened today on a Saturday for the National Lung Cancer Screening Day to:

– Raise awareness of early cancer detection through regular lung cancer screening.
– Reduce access disparities.”

Brittany Bailey:

“National Lung Cancer Screening Day is this Saturday, November 9th, and Healthcare Navigation Solutions encourages everyone to prioritize their health with a screening. I’d like to give a special shoutout to UF Health who recently launched local initiatives to address disparities in cancer care, with data showing that 15 out of 23 counties in the Cancer Center’s service area report mammogram rates below the state average.

Among these, 15 rural counties have a higher incidence of advanced-stage cancer diagnoses—the hardest to treat—and in 10 counties, breast cancer mortality rates exceed the state average. Let’s work together to close these gaps—get screened, stay safe, and be well!”

Prashant Warier:

“Today is Lung Cancer screening day. No better occasion to share probably the most satisfying story I have heard in my 9 years of building qure. This validates everything we have worked on over the last 9 years.

No commentary here – please watch the video!”

Jaspal Singh:

“Some of our Lung Cancer screening centers are open on this Saturday! Great work Leisa Lackey John Doty and team for spreading the word on National Lung Cancer Screening Day as we fight the #1 cancer killer.

Oh, and another thing…. our teams have some of the most advanced diagnostic and treatment options available. So, make sure to tell folks you care about who might be eligible to get screened. It just takes minutes, and it could save a life of someone you know.”

Michele Nicklis:

“At ClinSearch Resources, we’re proud to support lung cancer research and raise awareness for National Lung Cancer Screening Day on November 9th! Early detection can make all the difference, yet most eligible individuals still aren’t getting screened. Lung cancer screening is quick and can detect cancer in its early stages, improving the chances for effective treatment.

If you or a loved one has a history of smoking, consider sharing this message and encourage them to talk to their doctor about screening. Together, we can spread the word—lung cancer screening saves lives.

Prevent Cancer Foundation:

“Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in the U.S., but screening rates for the disease remain incredibly low. According to the American Lung Association, less than 6% of eligible U.S. adults were screened for lung cancer in 2022.

But with a screening that is quick and painless, why is this the case?

In the Prevent Cancer Foundation’s 2024 Early Detection Survey, 32% of eligible adults behind on lung cancer screening reported they didn’t know they needed to be screened.

Early Detection = Better Outcomes for lung cancer, but education about screening is an important part of the equation. As we approach National Lung Cancer Screening Day this weekend, we asked Dr. Christopher Wu with Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group | Kaiser Permanente to explain what exactly to expect during a lung cancer screening.”

“It’s Lung Cancer Screening Day and we want to highlight something we’re very proud of and excited about: The Mobile Lung Cancer Screening Bus!

With funds awarded to the Stephenson Cancer Center, this program will increase access to lung cancer screening across the state.

For more information on the importance of lung cancer screenings and the bus, listen to episode 48 of the TSET Better Health Podcast.”

Baptist Health:

“Early detection can be a lifesaver. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in America, but a low-dose CT scan can help catch it early—when it’s most treatable. If lung cancer is detected before it spreads, the 5-year survival rate increases to 60%.

Take the next step in protecting yourself or a loved one with details on how to schedule a lung screening today.

In partnership with LUNGevity Foundation, Miami Cancer Institute is advancing lung cancer screening education within Hispanic and Latino communities through resources and access to those at risk.
