Arif Kamal: Some of the most practice-changing updates that affect cancer care today

Arif Kamal shared on LinkedIn:          ,

“This year’s American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting included several groundbreaking studies in cancer care.

Appreciate ABC11 WTVD-TV sharing an update on some of the most practice-changing updates that affect cancer care today.

These include:
1. Sea changes in the first-line management of advanced hepatocellular (liver) cancer and melanoma,
2. Mainstreaming of telehealth and needs-based specialty palliative care upstream and starting at time of diagnosis, but titrated to distress,
3. Early recognition of the link between weight loss (including from the new GLP1-RA e.g. Ozempic, Wegovy) and reduced cancer risk – one study showing 39% less cancers.

These advances should inspire all going through a cancer journey (and those that care about them) to ask their oncology clinicians about how research presented at ASCO might affect how their cancer is managed.”
