“In the first episode of NCD Frontliners on OncoDaily, I had the privilege of speaking with Anita Abu Bakar, President of MIASA Malaysia, on a topic close to both our hearts: mental health and its rightful place within the global NCD agenda.
As we approach the 2025 UN High-Level Meeting on NCDs and Mental Health, Anita shared powerful insights from her lived experience and advocacy journey – highlighting the urgent need for community-led care, real inclusion, and leadership grounded in empathy.
It’s time we fully integrate mental health into NCD policy, with a clear focus on:
- Breaking stigma and silence
- Elevating lived experience as leadership
- Ensuring equity, funding, and accountability
- Embracing the principle: ‘Nothing about us, without us’
