Tilly Metz: EU4Health has proven its value time and time again
Tilly Metz, Member of the European Parliament, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Today, we gathered in the European Parliament to advocate for one of the most vital programs in the EU budget: EU4Health.
Health matters to people in Europe — and EU4Health has proven its value time and time again. From health promotion and prevention to digitalization and driving major initiatives like the Pharmaceutical Strategy and Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan, this program delivers real, positive outcomes for citizens across Europe.
However, EU4Health’s journey has been a mix of success and frustration. While we secured record funding in the current MFF, we’ve also seen priorities shift, and health has slowly lost the spotlight it held during the pandemic. That’s why today’s discussions are so crucial — to ensure health remains a top priority in the next MFF and is reflected in everything Europe does in the future.
The good news?
We have allies. EU Health Commissioner reassured us of his commitment to an ambitious health agenda, and early signs suggest health will secure dedicated funding — though it may be spread across different priorities.
Our task now is clear:
We must ensure the next EU4Health program remains comprehensive, ambitious, and continues to support public health efforts and NGOs — not become merely a tool for industrial competitiveness.
This Parliament, my colleagues – Stine Bosse, Andras Kulja and Vytenis Andriukaitis – and the Commission stand united on this front.
Let’s work together to make sure the next MFF puts health first.
Thank you European Patients’ Forum and European Public Health Alliance (EPHA) for being partners in this.”
