Douglas Flora: As someone who’s both treated cancer patients and survived cancer myself, I know first hand that progress can’t afford to wait
Douglas Flora, Executive Medical Director of Oncology Services at St. Elizabeth Healthcare, reshared a post by St. Elizabeth Healthcare on LinkedIn, adding:
“A quick update with mixed emotions: Our scheduled presentation at the National Cancer Institute has been temporarily postponed. Like many NIH/NCI activities, we’re in a holding pattern as the new administration transitions.
As someone who’s both treated cancer patients and survived cancer myself, I know firsthand that progress can’t afford to wait. Every day of delayed research is a day too long for:
- Patients awaiting breakthrough treatments
- Scientists on the verge of discoveries
- Families hoping for better screening tools
- Communities needing better education and prevention
The NCI isn’t just another government agency. It’s the engine driving our understanding and treatment of cancer forward. Critical research funding currently sits in limbo – research that could lead to earlier detection, better treatments, and saved lives.
This isn’t about politics. It’s about people.
Cancer research transcends party lines. Whether you’re red, blue, or purple – everyone wins when we advance our understanding and treatment of cancer.
Hoping our leaders in D.C. recognize the urgency and get the NCI back to full operations quickly. Some things simply can’t wait.”
