Mark Clemens: A major step forward in guiding surgeons on BIA-ALCL
Mark Clemens, Associate Vice President For Perioperative Services at MD Anderson Cancer Center, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Hot off the press! Our article, ‘American Association of Plastic Surgeons Consensus on Breast Implant–Associated Anaplastic Large-Cell Lymphoma (BIA- ALCL),’ is featured in the September issue of the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Journal!
This consensus represents a major step forward in guiding surgeons on BIA-ALCL as well as managing patients with textured implants. The article was selected as this month’s Editor’s Pick by Kevin Chung. A big thank you to associate editor Amy Colwell for her kind words, calling it ‘an excellent review of available data and evidence-supported guidelines’ and ‘a well-written and timely consensus article to help surgeons navigate how to best manage their patients with textured implants.’ Thank you to Terry Myckatyn and all our esteemed authors.
Curious about the recommendations? Click the link to read the full article and let’s discuss how we can continue to improve BIA-ALCL research. Made free online thanks to American Association of Plastic Surgeons (AAPS).
What are your thoughts on the latest recommendations? How do you think this changes care and follow up for patients with textured implants? What questions remain to address? Let’s start a conversation in the comments!”
