Zacharoula Sidiropoulou: Europe Launches Its Most Ambitious Cancer Information Portal!

Zacharoula Sidiropoulou, Senior Consultant Breast Surgical Oncologist at Hospital São Francisco Xavier, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“BREAKING: Europe Launches Its Most Ambitious Cancer Information Portal!

The EU-CIP: Cancer Information Portal is HERE and it’s about to change everything for millions of cancer patients across Europe!

After an incredible launch in Berlin by June 2025, this Horizon Europe project brings together an extraordinary consortium of 40 partners across 18 European countries – including leading institutions like Charité University of Berlin, European Cancer Organisation, Sociedade Portuguesa de Literacia em Saúde , and patient advocacy groups like Digestive Cancers Europe.

Together, we’re creating a unified, AI-powered digital hub that will democratize access to life-saving cancer information.
This isn’t just another portal – it’s the foundation of the European Cancer Patient Digital Centre and a cornerstone of Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan.

We’re deploying across 11 European countries with seamless integration into existing health infrastructures, using AI-supported governance to ensure content stays current, relevant, and accessible.

What makes this truly revolutionary is that it’s built WITH patients, BY patients and FOR patients – with patient organizations directly shaping every aspect of the platform. From prevention to palliative care, we’re covering the entire cancer journey with evidence-based information, targeting high-incidence, poor-prognosis, AND pediatric cancers because every single patient matters.

As a Breast Surgical Oncologist, I can’t express how honored I am to contribute to this transformative initiative. Every day, I witness the impact that accessible, reliable information can have on a patient’s journey and the devastating consequences when that information isn’t trustworthy or available.

This project represents what I believe in: breaking down barriers, democratizing knowledge, and ensuring that a patient’s zip code or language doesn’t determine their access to life-saving information.

When we empower patients and families with evidence-based knowledge, we don’t just improve outcomes, we restore hope and dignity to the cancer experience.

Innovation knows no borders.

We’re creating one common Library of Contents available to ALL EU Member States, ensuring millions of patients, survivors, families, and caregivers gain unprecedented access to reliable information.

Every feature we build, every piece of content we curate, every partnership we forge brings us closer to a Europe where no cancer patient feels alone or uninformed.

Massive kudos to every single partner organization making this vision reality! The future of cancer care is collaborative, digital, and patient-centered. And it starts NOW. ”
